Glossary · NE43
What is NAMUR NE43?
A recommendation defining current bands outside 4-20 mA that signal a sensor fault rather than a valid measurement.
The working range is 3.8 to 20.5 mA. Below 3.6 mA or above 21 mA means a fault: a broken wire, a failed sensor or a dropped supply.
Good industrial code tells "the measurement is zero" apart from "the sensor is dead": the first may be normal, the second calls for a maintenance alarm and for dropping automatic control on that signal.
